THE STORY BEHIND
Transformation is not a quiet event. It is a slow, physically demanding negotiation. Metamorphosis is not just a finished sculpture; it is the physical record of this struggle and a deeply personal rebirth.
Measuring a significant 100 x 50 cm, this wall sculpture is a statement. It is built to claim space. The foundation is solid MDF, upon which a complex skeleton of wire mesh was forged to hold the impossible. I worked it layer upon layer, mixing various structure pastes with gypsum, carving, and reshaping. I wanted a form that appears fluid and moving, yet remains anchored by its own history. It is a sculpted landscape of folds that oscillate between immense tension and final release. Each mark you see is a scar from that process.
A Vessel for Hope During the creation of this piece, my personal life was overshadowed by the recurring hospitalization of my grandmother and the unexpected loss of my job, which resulted in a burnout. It was a time of deep uncertainty, a period where I found myself constantly searching for hope.
This piece is reactive. Its surface is sculpted to interact dynamically with the natural light of a room, allowing deep shadows to carve their way into the folds while highlights soften the edges, shifting its presence throughout the day.
Owning Metamorphosis means owning that precarious threshold where the old dissolves and a new, powerful clarity begins to take shape. It is a testament to the idea that true beauty, and the ultimate courage to evolve, are found not in holding on, but in the release.
